Tokens For Schools

Back by

popular demand

If you love the idea of helping local schools while you support local businesses, you’ll be pleased to know that we’re running our Tokens for Schools scheme again. This will be the second year we’ve run the scheme, back by popular demand because it’s one of those genuine win-win ideas where everyone benefits.

In case you’re not familiar with it, here’s how it works. The public – and that includes you – gets the chance to use social media to vote for the schools they want to shortlist. Next, those schools are allocated token tubes which you’ll find in Borough Market, and into which you can deposit a special token to represent a single vote. You’ll be given a token every time you buy something at a participating shop or business, so the scheme encourages local trade as well as helping local schools. Don’t worry; the token tubes will be available for the whole of the summer holidays, so there’s plenty of time to clock up a few votes for your favourite local school.

We’ll be counting the votes and announcing the winner in September, and this year’s prize is £1,000 to be spent at any Halifax businesses. Last year’s prize went to Sowerby Village School and helped pay for arts and crafts materials bought from shops in Halifax.

The 8 schools shortlisted this year are:

  • Shelf J&I School
  • Ash Green Community Primary School
  • Wood Bank Special School
  • Copley Primary School
  • St Michael & All Angels C of E Primary School
  • Old Earth Primary School
  • Bradshaw Primary School
  • Luddendenfoot Academy

Tokens will be available from the participating shops and businesses on 18th July and the token tubes will be located in Halifax Borough Market, GOOD LUCK!
