It’s that time again… schools are breaking up and if you’ve got little ones to keep entertained – whether you’re a parent, grandparent, auntie, uncle or just a good friend – we’ve got you covered. Halifax is packed with things to do this Easter, from creative challenges and buzzing markets to nature trails, chocolate fun and peaceful escapes, here’s everything happening this Easter – in date order – to help you plan your adventures.

From Thursday 4 April: ‘It’s Always Ourselves We Find in the Sea’ – Sound Installation at The Piece Hall

4 April – 4 May | 11am–5pm daily

Step into a calming soundscape that explores our deep human connection to water. This immersive 30-minute experience is perfect for a peaceful pause during a busy day out in town.

From Friday 4 April: ‘Spring on the Wing’ – Woolshops Bird Watching Trail

Woolshops Shopping Centre | 4 – 21 April

Pick up a free trail card from the Woolshops customer service desk and go bird-spotting with a twist! Local schoolchildren have designed 20 unique birds, hidden all around the centre. Spot them all and you could win a prize. It’s a fun, free activity that gets the whole family exploring – perfect for a sunny afternoon in town.

From Saturday 5 April: ‘From Sheep to Cloth’ – Calderdale Industrial Museum

5 – 19 April (Open Saturdays and Thursdays)

Follow the journey of wool from sheep to woven cloth with this family-friendly exhibition. There’s a children’s trail with a prize to collect at the end – educational, hands-on, and right in the heart of Halifax.

From Saturday 5 April: Eureka!’s Easter Programme – Our Wonderful World

Eureka! The National Children’s Museum | Open daily 9:30am–5pm

Celebrate Earth Month at Eureka! with a packed line-up of events, all included in admission:

  • Story Walks with Ian & Jo – Daily (except 12 April)
  • Nature Zone Crafts – Daily, 11am–4pm, with special SCRAPtastic workshops (15–18 April)
  • Wildlife Experts Drop-in
  • Cromwell Bottom: 8 & 9 April
  • RSPB: 11 & 17 April
  • Marvellous Minibeasts – Creative fun for under 5s

Perfect for curious minds, little explorers and families who love hands-on fun.

Saturday 12 April: Chocolate Has A Name – Family Fun Day at Eureka!

Outside Eureka! and in the Marquee | 11:30am–4:30pm

An inspiring and joyful day exploring the story of chocolate through craft, movement and storytelling. Children will learn where their Easter treats come from, and how they connect with the planet and people around the world. Great for ages 3+ (some activities best suited for ages 5+).

Sunday 14 – Sunday 21 April: Easter Trail & Crafts at The Piece Hall

Daily 11am–3pm

Piece’s the Bunny has lost his eggs – and he needs your help to find them. Join the fun-filled Easter trail around The Piece Hall, hunting for hidden eggs in shop windows and solving clues along the way. Once complete, children can collect a sweet treat and head to the Learning Studio for creative Easter crafts.

There’ll also be badge-making (£1 per badge) and face painting (£2.50), with free drop-in crafting available too.

Trail tickets are £4 per child and can be booked online or bought on the day from the Visitor Centre

Friday 18 – Monday 21 April: Easter Markets at The Piece Hall

Friday–Saturday: 10am–8pm | Sunday: 10am–6pm | Monday: 10am–4pm

Round off the break with a big day out. The Piece Hall’s biggest weekend market ever is packed with over 60 stalls selling handmade crafts, delicious food, and local goodies – all set to a soundtrack of live entertainment. A brilliant family day out and a great excuse to treat yourself.
