A Summer to celebrate!

There’s a lot to like about summer in Halifax this year. After challenging times our town is back on track and ready to celebrate, and its busy, varied and upbeat summer programme really reflects this.

First up it’s a Jubilee year, with some wonderful public events planned to help mark the big occasion. There’s Yorkshire Day coming up too, so expect bunting galore and a special white rose giveaway. The town’s legendary Pride event will be a family-friendly affair, with fabulous acts and performances at this party in The Piece Hall.

Just when you think the fun’s all over, save some energy for September’s fabulous Heritage Open Days – a rare chance to see our favourite local buildings as you’ve never seen them before.

Don’t forget, all your favourite museums and attractions have their own great summer programmes to enjoy, so make sure you check online and book ahead for any ticketed events and shows. Come and see us at Discover Halifax too, in our fantastic new information Hub in the Woolshops area of town. We’ll have all the latest visitor info and, on top of that, throughout the summer holidays we’ll be putting on fun children’s activities like face painting.

Halifax On Tour!

We’re hitting the road this summer (well, as far as North Yorkshire at least!). That’s right – from Tuesday
12th to Friday 15th of July you can catch us on our stand at the legendary Great Yorkshire Show near Harrogate.

We’ll be there to promote Halifax and attract more visitors to our town, all part of our wider ongoing effort to drum up more trade for Halifax businesses. If you happen to be passing, come and say hi and find out about the work we do to help the Halifax economy and protect local jobs

Yorkshire Day

Whether you’re born and bred in God’s own county or just love it hereabouts, come along and join us as we celebrate everything that’s great about this unique part of the world. We’ll have our special Yorkshire bunting up and we’ll be giving out gorgeous white roses – the iconic symbol or our fabulous county.

Look out for events and promotions at venues around the town, including the magnificent Piece Hall just along from our Discover Halifax Hub.

Food glorious food

This year we’ve gone fanatical about food, serving up a delicious new menu of food-based treats for everyone to enjoy. Look out for lots of opportunities to try something new, as well as one or two gastronomic giveaways and a free prize draw based around our special foodie trail. Make sure you sniff out some of our wonderful independent eateries too – from formal dining, traditional pub grub and authentic Thai street food through to wonderful homemade waffles with all your favourite toppings. Drinkers are in for a treat too, with cafés galore to choose from as well as everything from hipster hangouts to fancy gin bars.

Heritage Open Days

The end of summer definitely doesn’t mean the end of special things to do in Halifax. In fact, the fascinating Heritage Open Days are a must-do activity for all the family. This is your big chance to visit a wide variety of beautiful and important buildings in Halifax, many of them with great historical significance not just to our town but to the whole UK and, in some cases, to the world!

Some of our best industrial, religious and cultural buildings will open their doors to the public, with free guided tours and the opportunity to see some stunning interior areas not usually open to the public.

Halifax Pride!

If you love a good party for all the family, you’ll love joining the fun at Pride. The last two years’ events were cancelled due to the pandemic, so you can expect a better-than-ever atmosphere for this year’s sensational one-day festival. Expect fun-filled acts and performances from a wide range of artists, with a famously friendly vibe where all the family are welcome – from kids and grown-ups to granny and grandpa. The festivities take place in the Piece Hall on the 3rd of September.

The Discover Halifax Hub

Our new information Hub is very much up and running, and right through summer we’ll using this base to help people get more than ever out of their visit to Halifax.

We’ve got all the latest information here about what’s on and where to go in and around town, whether you’re looking for shopping, arts and culture, entertainment, sports and leisure or eating and drinking. Don’t forget to ask us about Halifax’s hidden gems and those off-the-beaten-track places only the locals know about.

We’re open 7 days of the week and you can pick a free street map here, or why not chat to one of our friendly team and ask them anything you like about visiting Halifax. We’ll even tell you about special offers and promotions at businesses around town – perfect if you love a good deal! Throughout the summer holidays, we’ll also have free children’s activities like face painting.
