The Lantern Parade

The Starlight Parade begins at 4 PM, starting at Town Hall and winding its way through the streets before finishing at George Square. It’s a truly magical spectacle, with lanterns of all shapes and sizes lighting up the town.

Keep your eyes peeled for our friendly elf volunteers, who’ll be out and about handing out leaflets with the parade route to help you find the best spots to watch.

Parking and Transport

If you’re driving in, there’s plenty of parking to choose from, including:
– Broad Street Plaza
– Dean Clough (free parking)
– Woolshops
– North Bridge Car Park
– Prescott Street Car Park

There’s also on-street parking available on the outskirts of town if you don’t mind a short walk. If you’re coming by bus or train, Halifax’s stations are just a stone’s throw from the action.

A quick heads-up for Parade Day: Between 2 PM and 7 PM, buses that usually run from Commercial Street, Albion Street, George Street, and King Edward Street will be leaving from the Bus Station instead.

For the Grown Ups

Once the lanterns have been packed away, why not make a night of it? Many of Halifax’s bars and pubs are opening early and staying open late, so head into town for a great night out after the parade. Whether it’s a cosy pint in a traditional pub or cocktails with friends, Halifax has something for everyone.

Get Involved

Why not add your own sparkle to the parade? Drop into our free lantern-making workshop at Albany Arcade in Borough Market from 11 AM to 2 PM. It’s open to everyone – just turn up and get creative!

And don’t forget to scan the QR code on the parade leaflet to complete our audience feedback form. Show your completed form at the Discover Halifax Hub to claim a gift, and you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win a £50 Halifax Gift Card.

Don’t Miss It

From festive markets to live performances and the incredible lantern parade, there’s no better way to celebrate the season and enjoy all that Halifax has to offer. Wrap up warm, bring your loved ones, and join us for a day full of festive fun!
