With events, activities and decorations all over town, plus special help from our friends at Quality Street, this promises to be a fun-packed and family-focused Christmas like never before. We’re going big on the theme of ‘local’ too –bringing our communities and residents together, and helping our shops and services thrive.
As well as firm annual favourites like our post box competition and gift-wrapping elves, we’ve got a few ‘firsts’ too, like a hamper draw, amazing window art, and our Letter from Santa children’s activity. As always, we’re expecting the star of the show to be our Christmas Lights Switch On, and we’ve even moved it for this year to accommodate the growing crowds. It’ll showcase our stunning new ‘chocolate’ Christmas lights, and we’ll have fantastic acts and performers, including Danny and Rosie from Pulse FM.
Remember, the great thing about Christmas is that it really is Halifax at its very best! Along with the usual fantastic shops, stalls, galleries and boutiques, there will be gorgeous Christmas displays in lots of places, and deals, discounts and giveaways too. The Borough Market will be lively and fun, and this year it’s also hosting a special ‘charity tree’ to make donations at. While you’re in town, don’t forget to stay for a festive bite or brew, or how about Christmas drinks, seeing a show, or catching a gig at one of town’s intimate little venues. Rest assured: whatever you get up to this Christmas, we’ve been working our hardest to make it a merry one!
That’s right, folks, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without this easy-to-enter prize draw! We’ll run two draws this year, each offering a prize of £500 to be spent in Halifax through our exciting new gift card scheme. It’s perfect for helping with the cost of Christmas and also helping local businesses too.
Just look out for the entry forms, find them on flyers and inside various publications like Go Local and Halifax Courier. Post your completed form in one of the special temporary ‘post boxes’ around town. Remember the draw dates too: we’ll be picking the winners on the 30th November and 14th December 2019.
Winners will receive a £500 Halifax gift card to spend at any participating business in Halifax. Last but not least, good luck!
When: entry forms available through November and December in local press and magazines. Prize draws take place on November 30th and December 14th 2019.
Where: six temporary post boxes at various locations around Halifax town.
Open Monday to Saturday 9am – 5pm.
Christmas is the perfect time for a bit of charity, and our special charity ‘gifting tree’ will be at the Albany Arcade in Halifax Borough Market, close to our piano there (have a quick play while you’re visiting).
You’ll find tags already marked with details like ages and genders, for example 5 year-old girl, or 3 year-old boy. You can choose a tag you like the look of then buy a suitable present before leaving it under the gifting tree or dropping it off with our gift-wrapping elves!
Back by popular demand, our fabulous free gift-wrap service achieves the impossible: it saves you time and money as well as entertaining the kids! Our elves have been specially recruited to wrap your Christmas presents beautifully while you wait. Better still, there’s no limit to the number, shape or size of presents they’ll wrap, so it’s good news if you’re giving someone a scooter or rocking chair! All the wrapping bits and bobs are provided by us, so you don’t even need to think about digging out your sticky tape or learning to tie a ribbon!
Kids will love this service too, because we’ve chosen elves who are dressed for the part and love interacting. There’s even a cute ‘elves workshop’ to look at, and a catchy Christmas soundtrack to complete the festive fun. Just like last year, each day an elf will hide a special Golden Ticket gift card worth £100 with a randomly chosen present. That means you or someone you love could be in for an extra surprise when the big day comes! Don’t forget to ask us about the Halifax BID and how it helps our town – we’ll be happy to answer your questions.
We’re all tempted by online shopping from time to time, but this year we’re really encouraging people to do much more of their Christmas shopping here in Halifax.
It’s all part of our wider effort to help support Halifax businesses and make sure more money goes into Halifax people’s pockets, then back into our local economy. We’re also trying to make Christmas personal again, because we think that face-to-face shopping is a brilliant way to reconnect, build communities, and have a good old natter and laugh!
Don’t forget, Halifax has changed in recent years, and there’s an exciting and inspirational selection of products on offer here – whether that’s ingredients for your Christmas dinner or last-minute gifts for your loved ones. You’ll find lots of special offers and deals too, and don’t forget: with all the Christmas lights, music and decorations we’ve organised and helped pay for, visiting Halifax has never felt more festive and fun.
We’re a teeny bit obsessed with Christmas lights, but who can blame us when they look as good as the ones in the shop windows around Halifax this year. Don’t worry, many of our shops are using LED lights to keep them low energy – it’s all about responsible fun.
While you’re out and about enjoying the Christmas buzz, keep your eyes peeled for some wonderful window murals. Created by Jenny Tribillon, these beautiful seasonal scenes capture a different gift from the classic Christmas song, ‘The 12 Days Of Christmas’.
