We’re working harder than ever to ensure that Christmas in Halifax will still be great this year. We know this year has been difficult but we’re doing everything we can to deliver a Christmas in Halifax to remember. You’ll see some old favourites along with some new activities, all delivered in a way to make sure you can enjoy them safely, so you’ll know you have the confidence to shop, eat and have fun in Halifax.
This year, more than ever, we want you to come and enjoy our town centre and support our local businesses while you’re here. They’ve all worked incredibly hard to make you feel safe and welcome, so come on in, shop local and give our local businesses a Christmas they’ll remember too!
There are a small amount of events to enjoy this Christmas in town and online, click here to find out more.
We’re all tempted by online shopping from time to time, particularly in these uncertain times, but this year we’re really encouraging people to do much more of their Christmas shopping here in Halifax and we’re doing all we can to make sure that when you’re here, you find it a comfortable and safe place to be. It’s all part of our wider effort to help support local businesses and make sure more money goes into Halifax people’s pockets, then back into our local economy. We’re also trying to make Christmas personal again, because we think that face-to-face shopping is a brilliant way to reconnect, build communities, and have a good old natter and laugh!
Halifax has changed in recent years, and there’s an exciting and inspirational selection of products on offer here – whether that’s ingredients for your Christmas dinner or last-minute gifts for your loved ones. You’ll find lots of special offers and deals too, and don’t forget: with all the Christmas lights, music and decorations we’ve organised and helped pay for, visiting Halifax has never felt more festive and fun.
It’s never felt more important to show your support for our local businesses and Shop Local this Christmas. With so much uncertainty, it’s sometimes difficult to know what to buy someone in a world that’s changing so quickly, but with the Halifax Gift Card, accepted by over 80 businesses in Halifax, you’re not only guaranteed to find the perfect gift, you’re also making sure your money goes back in to our local economy.
For Christmas, we will be offering free delivery on all Gift Cards and for those looking at bulk purchases as gifts for employees, we’re giving away a £10 gift card when you spend £100 or more over 10+ cards.
We’re so pleased to welcome back our Christmas elves to Halifax this year, they’ll be out and about in the town centre every weekend up to the big day. Because of the current restrictions, the elves won’t be welcoming you into their workshop this year, but instead coming out to greet you and also spending time with our fabulous reindeers in the Borough Market. They’ll be helping to make sure that you feel safe on your visit to Halifax, as well as providing additional cleaning checks and offering guidance on Elf and Safety! Our reindeers this year have brought Santa’s sleigh along with them – why not pop along and get a family photo?
Remember writing to Santa, all those years ago? Of course you do! This interactive postbox is definitely one for the kids and families, and it’s great for imaginative play. We’ll be distributing our special templates for them in our free children’s edition of the Christmas magazine, so kids can write to Santa and receive a reply. Our fabulous elves will be helping to ensure this activity can be handled safely and securely with their final post date set for Monday 14th December 2020
Christmas is the perfect time for a bit of charity, and our special charity ‘gifting trees’ will be at the Albany Arcade in Halifax Borough Market and inside Harveys of Halifax. You’ll find tags already marked with details of who you can buy for, including different ages so you can choose who you’d like to buy something special for. You can choose a tag you like the look of then buy a suitable present before leaving it under a gifting tree. To ensure the safety of all involved, we’ll be collecting the presents and storing them safely until it’s time to deliver the presents to the recipients.
While you’re out and about in Halifax, keep your eyes peeled for some wonderful window murals. Created by one our favourite festive artists, these beautiful seasonal scenes capture the 12 days of Christmas perfectly. For 2020, we’ve added a fun ‘collect them all’ trail using our brand new app LoyalFree, where you can scan the QR codes of all 12 windows and be entered into a competition to win one of our fabulous gift cards. You could do this all in one day or collect the windows as you come across them. The windows make a great opportunity for selfies too – see if you can get a snap in front of every single one.
Brand new for 2020! Some of our favourite local businesses have donated gorgeous gifts and treats to this one, and now it’s up for grabs. Pop into town and make your way to the window of Harveys Of Halifax to see some of the fabulous prizes up for grabs – you really can win Christmas. With donations from businesses including Furniture City, Franklyn’s Jewellers and Gin Lane, this really is a cracker of a prize!
